International School Award Accreditation

I am delighted that our schools has been successful in gaining the International School Award that is accredited for three years by the British Council. Congratulations to our head teacher, the ISA school co-ordinator and the teachers who have worked so hard to co-ordinate such an impressive range of work. They are a credit to the school and the wider community. We are hoping that the scope of your excellent international activities will continue to develop and benefit the school community by large. This is one of our commitments to support the educational community in our region by sharing our know how in terms of innovative international work.

Our Sustainable Holiday Trip

Like every year our students get involved in eTwinning projects. Our sustainable Holiday Trip is a multidisciplinary project including schools from Tunisia, Italy and Romania. The idea of the project revolves around the theme of Sustainable Holidaying. Holidaying is a well-thought of enterprise. As such, we need to make the right choices and decisions. We should not only take in consideration our budget, our interests and needs but also think of the impact our activity may have on the climate, the environment and the planet . That’s why in our project “Our Sustainable Holiday Trip” our purpose is to foster a sustainability mindset by helping the students develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to think, plan and act with empathy, responsibility, and care for our planet through the theme of holidaying. The 3rd grade maths  students with their partners   will thoughtfully design sustainable holiday brochures or videos collaboratively.

The project aims at the students to :

  • gain knowledge about the SDGs by investigating the aspects of sustainability in general and in the context of a holiday trip in particular
  • examine the values and behaviours that will contribute to a sustainable future
  • create a plan for a sustainable holiday trip as a way to act for a sustainable future
  • develop English language skills
  • develop life skills of collaboration, communication , critical thinking, problem-solving, flexibility, and self-regulation
  • develop and foster the students digital competence
  • learn to learn , to manage one's learning and to think critically

Poster creation for the Tree Planting Campaign

Preparation for the school event involves many students, each one with a different task. A commited second year student created a poster for the school event to happen on Friday, November 15. Another one volunteered to create an event on facebook to advertise for the event they organise. Many other students are doing on field visits to ask for the support of local authorities in Hammam-Lif to support their action. More details will be shared soon in a report about it.

Looking Ahead to the Future: Grandma Stories in 2080

We definitely still cherish our childhood memories of our grandparents telling stories. Most of us would not remember most of those stories. And I'm afraid that one day we lose that cultural heritage. Because it is important for the future generations to be rooted in their own culture and open to other nations, Grandma Stories in 2080 is a collaborative writing project that starts from the partner countries cultural heritage of tales grandparents or parents would tell their grandchildren/children. Furthermore, stories are powerful tools for education and to create change. Through storytelling, students reflect on serious issues such as environment, quality education, gender equality, peace, and justice while developing their language skills and creativity! The students taking part in the project co-write Grandma Stories to her grandchildren. As for the themes evoked in the stories, they are inspired from the UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2030.

Grandma Stories in 2080 is an eTwinning collaborative story writing project. That includes 3 schools from Tunisia and  other schools from European countries.

As mentioned above this is a collaborative project that promotes cultural understanding through digital storytelling. The students from the different countries in the project collect stories narrated by their grandmathers in their native language and share them online in the form of podcasts and subtitled videos. The following padlet is a collection of the Tunisian stories translated to English by the Tunisian students.

Fait avec Padlet

Through listening to the diffrent stories, the students notice the structure of a narrative in order to write one. They also notice that there are similarities in fairy tales in different countries with more or less some change. The years of 2080's will be a time when the students taking part in the project would be grandparents. In this project, they write their own stories, the stories they would tell to their grandchildren, inspired from the #SDGs. What is particularly worth noting is that the project goes beyond merely sensitizing the students about global issues to  urging them to take action  to tackle real world problems and write a better version story of their future.

You can find here the final products of the project with a description of the collaborative process.

About the Epxert's Talk

Mrs N. Zammouri was there for the event. The students were introduced to the goals, the purpose of the cause. The students were also sensitized to their role as an essential element of the chain. They interacted wih Mrs Zammouri and each other, shared how they could contribute by suggesting some solutions and ways they could contribute to see the goals well established. Other teachers, mentoring students in our school clubs,  joined us during the event. They were curious to know about the SDGs. They asked us how they could join the stream as educators. This event was also an opportunity to disseminate our project (Grandma Stories in 2080) in our school to teachers and other students.

Here are some pictures of the event:

And here is a video about the event...
(sorry about the low quality of the video😉)
